Authentication issues on private TFS server...

I'm completely new to TFS but have been using SVN for years. I need to checkout a private TFS repository through a VPN and SvnBridge looks like the perfect solution!
However I cannot get past TortoiseSVN authentication.
I have successfully built and tested SvnBridge with the Subkismet example by Hanselman.
I have also successfully authenticated and checked out the private repository using tfc.exe from the CodePlexClient project.

Can anybody offer any tips?

Are you logged into your developer machine using the same Active Directory login that serves as your TFS login?

No, I am not a member of the domain.
I am a contractor who has been given an AD account that has read-only access to the repository.

This scenario seems to work fine for me. What does it do when you try to checkout? Does TortoiseSVN just keep asking for your login or does the bridge throw an exception? Are you trying to checkout the root (e.g. http://localhost:8081) or are you specifying the project name (e.g. http://localhost:8081/projectname)?
